Michelle Hackett (she/her)
Counselling Student Intern

Michelle is a Counselling Student Intern providing phone and video/virtual affordable counselling to clients across British Columbia. She offers individual counselling to young adults (18+), adults and seniors, looking for support throughout the ups and downs of their life journey.

While working with Michelle, clients can expect to be supported in a safe, open, non-judgemental counselling relationship that is grounded in trust and respect. She is dedicated to helping her clients feel heard and at ease to share their deepest thoughts and feelings. Michelle’s goal is to help her clients explore new possibilities, gain awareness, reduce emotional suffering, and feel empowered to strive toward their fullest potential. Within this nurturing alliance, she will help uncover resilience within each of her clients to surpass future obstacles.

Michelle focuses on supporting clients struggling with symptoms of anxiety, low self-esteem, acceptance, motivation, perfectionism, relationship concerns, life transitions, stress, and the pressures of caregiving. She also thrives at helping clients with academic and work pressures, coping with the unknown and living a life of wellness.

She approaches her practice from a humanistic (client-centred) framework and focuses on building a strong therapeutic relationship with her clients. She works collaboratively with her clients and draws from a variety of interventions to meet each of her client’s specific needs to ignite change. Some of the diverse interventions that she uses are solution-focused, strength-based, mindfulness-based, somatic-based, experiential, and cognitive-behavioural techniques. She also incorporates breath and movement in the healing process with clients.

Michelle has over a decade of experience helping teens and young adults navigate through their life journeys and in supporting them to achieve their goals. Having worked in higher education in Student Services, Michelle has a rich understanding of the complexities of student life which helps her connect further with her clients.

Additionally, Michelle has travelled extensively around the world and has had the greatest opportunities to meet and interact with people from diverse cultures, identities, and experiences. Michelle studied yoga and meditation in Rishikesh, India, where she completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. This experience profoundly impacted her own well-being, and she draws from this approach to help her clients feel more in balance.

Michelle has a BA in Psychology from Bishop’s University in Quebec. She is now completing her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University and is a Counselling Student Intern with Gravitate Counselling Inc. She is a Student Member of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC).

Our Counselling Student Intern program allows Gravitate Counselling Inc. to offer low-cost, affordable counselling to clients across Vancouver Island and the rest of BC. Michelle is a student member of the BCACC and is supervised by Andee Dale, a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.
