Student Internship Program

Counselling Student Intern Clinic

Now accepting applications from Masters-level students seeking an internship opportunity.

Due to the volume of applications received, we only respond to shortlisted applicants.

Gravitate Counselling Inc. offers an online internship for students enrolled in accredited Masters-level programs.

To complete online sessions, interns must have reliable and predictable access to a professional, quiet, dedicated, and tastefully-decorated space. A quality setup, including high-speed internet, quality microphone and good webcam is also required.

Clients are offered sessions with Counselling Student Interns at a rate of $50+GST/50 minute session, with the fee being retained by Gravitate to offset the administrative costs of hosting Counselling Student Interns.

Counselling Student Interns are responsible for paying for the cost of supervision at the supervisor’s hourly rate. This rate varies from $150-$165/hour, depending on the supervisor assigned.

What We’re Offering

Our goal is to provide Masters-level students an opportunity to grow their skills in a private practice environment, while providing support to clients who have identified a need for low-cost counselling supports. To support this, we’re offering:

  • A supportive environment to use the skills you’ve learned in your program, and to develop your identity and confidence as a clinician.

  • Individual sessions that emphasize intern development. Group supervision may be available, dependent on the number of Counselling Student Interns being hosted and the needs of each Intern.

  • Access to our online platform (Jane) for scheduling, video sessions, payment processing and more.

  • Administrative support to onboard with our clinic and with anything that comes up throughout your internship.

Who We’re Looking For

Gravitate is committed to having a diverse team of counsellors and interns who can support clients bringing a range of presenting challenges to the counselling setting. Given that we’re a private practice clinic, we’re seeking interns who:

  • Have 3+ years previous experience working and/or volunteering with individuals in a helping role.

  • Can offer a consistent schedule (not changing week-to-week) of 15-20 hours of availability each week.

  • Are reliable and, therefore, unlikely to need to reschedule clients.

  • Are (or will be by the time the internship begins) a Student Member with the BCACC.

  • Have done their own work, to the degree that they can name what’s coming up for themselves before others can.

  • Will seek to add value to the clinic through collaborative activities.

What You Should Know

A few more things you should know:

  • Our Counselling Student Interns are limited to working with clients aged 18+.

  • Supervision will be provided by Kathryn McInroy and/or Andee Dale. Both have been approved as supervisors for CityUniversity (BC) and Yorkville University.

  • We know that diversity of experiences and thought adds value to our company. We are striving to build a workforce that is representative of the community in which we live and that we serve, and are passionate about providing a safe learning environment for students who identify as a member of equity-seeking groups.

  • While we can’t guarantee how many client contact hours you will have each week, we will actively promote our Counselling Student Intern Clinic to bring you the best possible experience while you’re with us.

  • We welcome applicants who are seeking a secondary internship site (with us either being the primary or secondary).
