Cynthia Then (she/her)
MC, RCC

Cynthia is a Registered Clinical Counsellor offering video and phone counselling to clients across British Columbia and Alberta. She supports teens (16+), young adults, and individuals of all genders and backgrounds.

Cynthia brings a welcoming, warm and calm space to be just as you are. She recognizes that throughout our lives we can encounter experiences that challenge our well-being, leading to increased stress, anxiety, and feelings of uncertainty or disconnection. Perhaps you feel stuck, are questioning your path, or find yourself overthinking or repeating unhelpful patterns. Whatever brings you to counselling, Cynthia is passionate about supporting clients to overcome adversity and find personal meaning. She believes in each individual’s innate ability to heal and looks forward to walking alongside you.

As a Southeast Asian woman and second-generation immigrant, Cynthia understands deeply how the intersection of culture, race, neurodivergence, gender, generational values and society can influence our identities, patterns and relationships. She believes that each person is an expert in themselves, and centers her practice around respect, compassion and cultural safety. Acknowledging that counselling is a journey, she meets her clients where they are and helps them move forward in finding clarity, connection, and purpose.

Cynthia’s approach is relational, collaborative and person-centered. She incorporates connection to emotion while honouring stories from the past. Cynthia integrates a non-pathologizing approach and concepts from psychodynamic and existential theories to increase self-awareness and self-understanding. In this way, clients recognize their strengths and unlearn narratives that no longer serve them, ultimately allowing for growth and movement toward where clients want to be. Her practice is inclusive, non-judgmental and anti-oppressive.

As a Registered Nurse, Cynthia has worked in various specialties as a front-line nurse. She understands first-hand how the profession and its systems can impact mental health and well-being, as well as personal and professional relationships. Through a trauma-informed and holistic approach, she provides support to address burnout, stressors, and finding balance between personal and professional identities while holding space for the unique needs of each individual.
